GGR Everything Lead Reviewer Lindsay Scheele, CPT, CNC, put the Major Fitness Adjustable Bench through a series of workouts to get a good feel for its adjustability, stability, and overall performance. Right off the bat, she was impressed by its steadiness, noting that there was “very little wiggling” during testing. Meanwhile, the ladder-style adjustment system proved to be user-friendly, allowing for quick changes during her workout. 

Let’s dive deeper into Lindsay’s full training experience, so you can get direct insight on this adjustable weight bench from Major Fitness. 

Major Fitness Adjustable Bench Rating

Construction

Made from alloy steel, the Major Fitness Adjustable Bench tips the scales at 61.7 pounds—right on par with the weight of the average weight bench. It features a three-post design that helps ensure maximum stability, resulting in a near-perfect construction score of 4.5 out of 5. 

“The steel base is about double the thickness of what you’d find on most quality squat racks,” Lindsay says. “It uses a 5-gauge steel for its base, as well.” 

Meanwhile, the PLT01 measures 42.5 inches long by 8.3 inches wide by 17.7 inches tall. That second figure is particularly noteworthy, as it’s significantly narrower than what we typically see with benches. In fact, it’s less than half the width of the average bench (20 inches). This could be problematic for larger lifters who need a wider back pad for more support, so this is something to keep in mind. 

Durability

The PLT01 boasts an impressive weight capacity of 1,300 pounds, which is roughly 350 pounds more than the average weight bench we’ve tested. In fact, this is even higher than the Rogue FB-5000 Flat Bench (our top overall weight bench). This gives you plenty of room for progressive overload¹; a key component to building strength and muscle.

However, the high weight capacity isn’t the only reason we gave the PLT01 a 4.5-out-of-5 rating for durability. This bench has 2.5-inch-thick padding that can provide sufficient support for all your lifts. Plus, the PLT01 has a fully ergonomical design that makes it feel like there’s a single pad of thick foam covered with vinyl. 

Is this the best padding or vinyl we’ve felt? Compared to higher-end benches like the REP Fitness Nighthawk, the PLT01 doesn’t boast that same premium look or feel. However, this should still hold up well, especially based on its budget-friendly price point.

Adjustability

The Major Fitness Adjustable Bench features nine back pad adjustments ranging from flat to 90 degrees, giving you ample options to train at different angles. Plus, there are four seat pad positions for even more targeted training. 

“With this many positions between the back and seat pads, you can adjust your bench to just about any functionality you want,” Lindsay says. “It uses an open ladder system, which is very easy to adjust, but it’s also easy to pinch your fingers into if you’re not paying attention.”

We rate the adjustability at a solid 4 out of 5 since there are other benches that offer a more robust range of options. For example, the Rogue AB-5200 has 10 back pad positions, four seat pad positions, and optional decline angles of -8, -6, and -4 degrees. However, the highly customizable AB-5200 also costs about double the price. 

Portability

We’re big fans of compact exercise equipment since many home gym owners need to maximize space. Due to its size, the Major Fitness Adjustable Bench doesn’t take up a ton of room, which is great if real estate is already an issue. In addition, it features rear transport wheels and a front handle that makes it easy to move out of the way when you’re done working out. 

“It can’t be stored upright, but overall, it would be good for someone limited on space,” Lindsay says, rating the portability at 3.5 out of 5. 

If portability is your top priority, the GIANT Lifting Adjustable Weight Bench can be a solid alternative. I personally tested this bench and appreciate that it can be stored upright—a big space-saving bonus. That said, the PLT01 blows the GIANT bench out of the water in terms of weight capacity (1,300 pounds vs 700 pounds) and adjustability, so even though it didn’t score particularly high for portability, it’s far from impossible to reposition.

Stability and Size

The Major Fitness Adjustable Bench scored much better than the average weight bench for size and stability, earning a 4.5 out of 5 in this category. As mentioned earlier, the three-post design helps the bench stay well-anchored and balanced, allowing you to fully focus on your workout. 

“Overall, this feels like a very stable bench,” Lindsay notes. “There was very little wiggle while testing and the base of the bench is very solid.” 

At 17.3 inches tall, the PLT01 is right on par with commercial standards for height. In fact, it falls right within the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) rules for a competition bench, which must measure 16.5 to 17.7 inches from the floor to the top of the pad. 

Value

Is this the best bang for your buck solution? Not necessarily. Still, we awarded a 4 out of 5 in this category because the PLT01 gives you a solid, stable bench with sufficient adjustability for the price.

“I was hoping this bench would be a better value when you compare it to others because, overall, I wasn’t blown away by it,” Lindsay explains. 

Listed for roughly $260, the Major Fitness Adjustable Bench is in the same ballpark as the REP AB-3100—a bench I owned for several years. While the AB-3100 doesn’t offer as many back pad positions, or as high of a weight capacity, it comes in four colorways and has a slightly wider back pad that tapers to 9 inches at the top. However, while you only get a one-year warranty from Major Fitness, REP provides a 10-year frame warranty for its benches, which adds significant value. 

You could argue, though, that you get a better deal from Major Fitness because of the more robust weight capacity (1,300 pounds vs. 700) and more expansive ladder adjustment system. Ultimately, you’ll need to crunch the numbers and determine which features you’re willing to pay for prior to checkout.

Customer Experience

As mentioned above, Major Fitness only provides a one-year warranty with this bench. This is disappointing but not totally surprising, given its budget-oriented price point. 

We still awarded a 4-out-of-5 customer experience score for several reasons. First, the company offers a no-reason return policy within 35 days from the delivery date. As long as the bench isn’t damaged (and you have the original packaging), you can return it for a full refund within that time frame. 

In addition, we appreciate that Major Fitness offers financing options to help athletes manage their purchasing power. You can also use available HSA/FSA funds to make the PLT01 part of your home gym arsenal. 

Lindsay also contacted customer service several times and was pleased to report that they responded within 48 hours. However, there were some concerns that the representatives didn’t know the exact details about the product, which led us to our less-than-perfect score.

This heavy-duty model is significantly heavier (about double the weight) and boasts a roomier back pad (nearly 9 inches longer and almost 4 inches wider), making it more accommodating for bigger lifters. To get a 3 out of 5, the rack may use thinner gauges of steel and may scratch easily. The highest-scoring racks typically use 11-gauge steel and a scratch-resistant coating, and offer weight capacities of 1,000 pounds or higher.

Aside from durability, stability is one of the most important scoring categories when assessing a squat rack. If a rack feels wobbly or unsteady when racking or unracking a bar, it can become a safety issue if you’re not careful. 

To get a 3 out of 5 for stability, the rack should feel steady under heavy loads, but it may wobble a little when using various attachments or the pull-up bar (if one is included). High-scoring racks in this category may need to be bolted down, but once done, they don’t move at all.

For this Giant Lifting squat rack review, our product tester was Caine Wilkes, OLY, CNC, USAW-L1. Not only is Caine a former gym owner, but he’s an Olympic lifter who competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Safe to say, Caine has tested plenty of racks over the years, and he understands what qualities to look for when using a squat rack. 

Giant Lifting specializes in affordable equipment for home gym setups, including power racks, adjustable benches, barbells, cable machines, and more. Overall, Caine was impressed with the rack, especially at this price point. It’s not the most durable rack we’ve ever tested, but for the cost, Caine felt the value was still high. 

Aside from some slight wobbling with heavier loads, which isn’t unusual for a rack made with lighter gauges of steel, Caine’s only real callout was the positioning of the included lat pulldown and low row. The pulley system felt fine, but the height felt a little awkward.

He said, “I had to sit down on the floor to use the lat pulldown and low row, just because of the lower height and position of the pulley for the low row.”

Aside from that, we think this is a pretty solid rack, especially for the versatility it offers at an affordable cost. You’ll need to factor in the cost of a barbell and weight plates if you don’t already own some, as there’s no weight stack with pin selections, but it’s still a good value choice.

For those tight on space, the ability to add a pulldown and row saves you from having to buy a separate lat tower, making this a great piece of equipment for smaller home gyms. The cable attachments don’t offer quite as much versatility as the best functional trainers, but it’s still a solid option, especially for those tight on space.

The 1:1 pulley ratio is also a good feature, as the lat pulldown/low-row attachment has a 450-pound weight limit. With a 1:1 pulley, you feel all of the weight you’re using, so 100 pounds feels like 100 pounds.

Construction & Durability

The first category to look at is construction and durability, and Giant Lifting earns 3 out of 5 stars here. We think it’s good enough for most people, even if it’s not quite as durable as some higher-end options. 

Giant Lifting uses 14-gauge steel and 2-inch-by-2-inch uprights, while many popular high-end racks use 11-gauge steel and 3-inch-by-3-inch  uprights. The weight capacity is 700 pounds due to the lower gauge steel, compared to the 1,000-pound capacity seen on higher-end racks, but most users aren’t lifting that much anyway. 

The 1-inch holes are spaced 2 inches apart, with laser-cut numbers to help you find the right position.

It uses nylon pulleys, which are often smoother than aluminum pulleys, but they don’t have the same durability and may need to be replaced eventually. 

Delivery & Setup

Building a squat rack can be a challenging, time-consuming process, but thankfully this one was easy. Caine gave it 4 out of 5 stars. 

With racks that feature attachments, setting up all of your pulleys and cables can be tricky, but Caine didn’t have any issues with this one. He said, “There were no delivery or assembly issues, you just have to bolt uprights and crossbeams to the base.”

Versatility

When it comes to versatility, the Giant Lifting Garage Gym 2.0 earns 4.5 out of 5 stars. This is an interesting category for this specific rack, as it’s quite versatile, especially for the cost.

Research shows¹ that including a variety of exercises in your training program can have a positive impact on strength and hypertrophy, so we appreciate gear that offers plenty of versatility. 

The holes are spaced 2 inches apart, which gives you plenty of height options for the included j-cups. If you have your own attachments, you can also use the included carabiners on each pulley to perform exercises like tricep pushdowns or bicep curls.

Caine tested this rack with a variety of exercises and didn’t have any major issues. It wobbled a little, but it never felt unsafe, so you can use this the way you’d use any other rack. In addition to being able to use this rack for countless barbell exercises, the included lat pull and rowing station are nice upgrades.

Accessory Compatibility

Even though this rack is pretty versatile, it’s not the best when it comes to accessories, so Caine docked a point and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. While it can be used for lat pulldowns and rows, you won’t be able to add many popular third-party accessories. 

“The uprights feature 1-inch holes with 2-inch spacing, which offers plenty of height options for your j-hooks,” he explains. “However, many third-party rack accessories are built for 3-inch-by-3-inch uprights, which means they won’t fit on this rack.”

You may be able to find third-party accessories meant for 2-inch-by-2-inch uprights, but your options will probably be pretty limited. Giant Lifting sells a few compatible third-party attachments, but it’s still a pretty limited selection when it comes to power rack attachments.

Stability

For stability, we typically don’t expect to see the most durable racks with 14-gauge steel and a lower price tag, though this one is still pretty decent. Caine had a few minor issues, but overall, he gives it 4 out of 5 stars for stability. 

“There are weight pegs on the base of the rack to help weigh down the rack,” Caine explains. “Without those, it can be a little shaky, but even a slight amount of weight made a huge difference. I had just 20 pounds on the back and it stopped shaking while I was testing it.”

Most users seem very happy with their purchase, especially at this price point, though a few mention that the instructions aren’t very clear, which makes assembling the rack difficult.

If you’re looking to shop on an even tighter budget and don’t need the cable attachments, we recommend the Fringe Sport Squat Rack with Pull-Up Bar. It’s a half-rack, so you don’t get the full cage, but it only costs $349 at the time of writing, making it more affordable for more people. Plus, it uses 12-gauge steel, which is slightly thicker than the uprights used by Giant Lifting. 

On the other hand, if you’re looking to splurge and get the best rack on the market, you can’t go wrong with the REP PR-4000. It’s not cheap, but it’s a high-quality rack with a lifetime frame warranty, and the 3-inch-by-3-inch uprights are compatible with countless accessories, including some of REP’s excellent add-ons. It starts at $929, but the cost can quickly add up once you start bundling it with various upgrades.

If you want a rack that you’ll never need to upgrade in the future, and like the idea of adding attachments along the way, the REP PR-4000 is the way to go.

Overall, it’s hard to go wrong with the Giant Lifting Garage Gym 2.0 bundle, as long as you know what you’re getting. It’s not going to be as durable or sturdy as racks you may have used in commercial gyms, but if you’re training at home and have extra plates to stabilize the rack, we don’t think you’ll have any issues. 

At this price point, it offers a lot of value, and the 700-pound weight capacity is more than enough for most recreational lifters. 

• The Giant Lifting Garage Gym 2.0 uses 2” x 2” 14-gauge steel uprights, which are lighter than many of the more durable options on the market. 
• It includes a lat pulldown and low row attachment, but it’s not compatible with many third-party accessories.

What to Know Before You Buy

• The Bowflex resistance system uses a combination of flexible weight rods and pulleys, which feel very similar to training with resistance bands. 
• While we didn’t have any durability concerns during our testing, the rods seem like they may lose a little bit of tension and resistance with years of regular use.

Experience Using the Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym

For this review, our tester was GGR editorial staff member and expert product tester, Jay Serafino. Jay was able to try a variety of exercises on the Xtreme 2 SE, allowing him to feel the resistance, try out different accessories, and carefully rate the overall workout experience.

Overall, Jay felt that the Xtreme 2 SE offers plenty of versatility, but he had a few concerns about the durability and pointed out that it feels very similar to training with resistance bands. For those who have never used bands, they offer accommodating resistance, which means the felt resistance changes throughout the movement. 

With something like a cable stack, the weight is constant, but with the Bowflex, the weight increases the further you bend the rods. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly feels different from using traditional functional trainers. 

Jay noted, “The feel of the rods took some getting used to; it was more like a resistance band workout than weight training.”

Don’t be alarmed, though, as research shows¹ that training with elastic resistance can promote similar strength gains as standard resistance training.

If you’re just looking for a way to enjoy some upper-body focused resistance training at home, and strength training isn’t your primary fitness activity, this could be a great choice. However, if you’re a strength athlete, or someone who’s used to the types of functional trainers you’ll find at most commercial gyms, you may want to consider something else.

Construction and Durability

For construction and durability, Jay gave the Xtreme 2 SE a rating of 3.5 out of 5. He didn’t have too many issues during testing, but it wasn’t the most stable functional trainer he’s ever used. 

“There was a little bit of wobbling when I used it,” Jay explains. “Overall, it didn’t feel overly sturdy, but it will probably get the job done if you’re not too hard on it.”

He also notes that the rod system felt fine in use, but he had concerns regarding longevity. “The rods themselves seemed mostly sturdy,” he says, “Though I’d be concerned that they’d start to wear out and bow after continued use.”

The warranty on the machine is seven years, but the rods themselves only have a five-year warranty, which supports Jay’s opinion that they’re likely going to be the first component that needs to be replaced.

Footprint

If you’re shopping for a home gym, you may be tight on space, and the Xtreme 2 SE earned 3.5 out of 5 stars for its footprint, which is slightly lower than the average functional trainer score.

“It’s deceptively big,” says Jay. “The machine itself is pretty tall at 83.25 inches, but it’s also wide. There are also a lot of moving parts: The rods, the cables, the attachments, etc. It won’t take up your whole garage, but there’s a lot going on.”

If you have a large area and don’t mind dedicating a significant chunk of floor space to this machine, you likely won’t have any issues. Just know that it’s bigger than it looks, which is worth considering when planning your home gym. If the dimensions are too excessive for your available space, it may be best to opt for more compact exercise equipment.

Versatility

One of the biggest strengths of this machine is the versatility, which earns a 4-out-of-5-star rating. Jay noted that you can train a lot of muscle groups with this all-in-one machine, and Bowflex claims that you can do more than 70 different strength exercises across the profile. Whether you’re looking to train your chest, back, biceps, triceps, or even your legs, Bowflex has you covered.

Jay adds, “It’s not ideal for powerlifters or the like, but you can get some decent upper-body strength training done, as you can do lat pulldowns, chest flies, and more.”

The default weight stack offers 210 pounds of Power Rod resistance, but you can go up to 410 pounds with the $129 upgrade; a nice feature for stronger individuals. 

Our biggest callout is the lack of lower-body training. It has a leg extension attachment, and you may be able to recreate certain lower-body movements if you can get creative, but there’s no good way to replicate a squat or deadlift.

Pulleys

As with any functional trainer or home fitness cable machine, the cable pulley system plays a significant role in how the machine feels, especially when it comes to the smoothness of each rep. When rating pulleys, we specifically look for any jumping, sticking points, or uneven movement; for this category, Jay gave the Bowflex 3.5 out of 5 stars. 

He said that the pulleys felt fine, especially once he was able to adjust the seat to get the right angle for each movement. They weren’t quite on par with some of the pulleys we see on high-end functional trainers, but they work pretty well with no major issues. 

Accessories

For accessories, we’re rating how many attachments are included with a functional trainer, and Xtreme 2 SE earns an average score of 3 out of 5 stars. It’s fine, but nothing too special. 

The Xtreme 2 SE includes hand grips, ankle cuffs, two different bar attachments, and an ab crunch harness. It also includes a few workout guides, which can be useful for those new to Bowflex’s unique design. 

Jay pointed out that you can add your own attachments if you have them, like rope attachments or different types of handles, but you’ll have to buy them yourself. 

“The ability to upgrade to a higher weight is convenient, but you’re locked into the Bowflex ecosystem with this machine,” he says. “It’s not like weight plates, where you can mix and match brands — you’re stuck with the rods.”

Value

Even though this Bowflex home gym isn’t perfect, we love the versatility it offers, and give it a strong 5 out of 5 for the value it provides. 

“The ability to perform so many exercises is the selling point here,” Jay explains. “You can find better-constructed upper-body machines, but the amount of different exercises you can do in one spot is impressive for $1,499.”

The brand claims the Xtreme 2 SE offers the ability to perform over 70 different exercises, making it extremely versatile for the price point. If you don’t mind the feel of the rods, which are more reminiscent of resistance bands than free weights, this can be a worthwhile investment for those who want to train their entire upper body with one tool. 

Customer Experience

For the customer experience category, we examine things like customer support, the ordering process, financing options, and warranties. Bowflex earns a solid 4 out of 5 stars in this area, based on its well-rounded service bundle.

Financing is available for qualified buyers, and Bowflex has periodic free shipping deals at checkout, though the non-deal price is $199. For $399, you can take advantage of Bowflex’s in-home assembly services where the Xtreme 2 SE is delivered and set up in a room of your choosing. 

The warranty coverage is pretty solid, too. Bowflex offers a 7-year warranty on the machine, but only a 5-year warranty on the resistance rods, which indicates they may eventually need to be replaced. 

The company also offers a 30-day return window, but Jay notes that you need to check the fine print. The machine has to be returned in ‘like-new’ condition in the original packaging, so if you’ve already assembled it, it may be tricky to get it back into the packaging. If you’re unable to do so, you could be charged a 20% handling fee.

However, it costs $2,199, so the Xtreme SE 2 may be a better choice for those shopping on a budget.

Overall, the Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE is well worth considering if you’re looking for a versatile functional trainer on a budget. The only real issue we think people will have is the unique resistance system, which may or may not be a good fit for your training goals. 

“It could be great for beginners or for people who want a one-stop shop in their garage and aren’t concerned with working toward a bench or squat PR,” explains Jay. “That said, it’s important to make sure that the machine works for your training style. It offers very little for people who love slinging dumbbells, barbells, and kettlebells.”

• The Boxflex Xtreme 2 SE offers over 70 strength training exercises for only $1,499, making it a versatile choice for home gym owners on a budget. 
• If you’ve never used resistance bands, we recommend trying some out first to give you an idea of how this functional trainer feels, as it’s quite different from most other machines on the market.

Training on the XMark Functional Trainer feels very much like using a commercial cable machine. Once assembled, day-to-day use is straightforward. Adjusting the pulleys is quick, the selector pins slide in effortlessly, and the carriage moves smoothly across its height range. 

The dual 230-pound stacks offer plenty of resistance for most lifters, and the 2:1 ratio makes movements feel controlled, even at heavier loads. Whether we were running fly variations, rows, triceps work, or single-arm accessories, the cable travel stayed consistent through full ranges of motion.

The steel gauge is not disclosed in the Amazon listing, but based on our experience testing more than a dozen functional trainers, we estimate it to be 11-gauge steel. “It feels very solid in use and like it’ll last,” says Caine Wilkes, OLY, CNC, USAW-L1, giving it a 4 out of 5 for durability. He knocked one point off due to the plastic pulleys, since plastic is generally more susceptible to wear than other materials XMark could have used here, like aluminum.

The XMark Functional Trainer is a large, heavy machine that’s best treated as a permanent fixture once assembled. Delivery is via freight, and you’ll need to provide your cell phone number so the freight company can contact you to schedule the delivery. Though the unit comes mostly pre-assembled (including cable routing), it’s not something you’ll want to move often. 

Caine notes that it doesn’t take up a lot of floor space—most of its size is vertical—but it’s still not ideal for small home gyms at 5 feet long by 3 feet deep. 

The sub-8-foot height (90 inches) should work for lower ceilings, though a 9-foot ceiling or higher is better to have more head space for pull-ups. Caine also notes, “I had to lift my legs up to hang for pull-ups; just a note for taller folks.” Overall, we rate the footprint at a conservative 3.5 out of 5.

Versatility

“With the dual 230-pound stacks and 2:1 ratio, the resistance is sufficient enough to challenge someone like me on flyes or crossovers,” Caine says. “It’s a little on the light side for low rows and lat pulldowns though.” 

It’s worth noting, though, that Caine is a literal Olympic athlete who competes in weightlifting. In other words, much stronger than most of us! We think the resistance ratio will allow for plenty of progression for the vast majority of people and rate the versatility at 4 out of 5. 

Caine also points out that the design grants plenty of space for upper and lower body exercises. He does note, though, that the 10-pound weight increments may make progression tough for certain exercises, like overhead triceps extensions or lateral raises.

Pulleys and Stability

In use, the XMark trainer feels stable and smooth. The pulley system delivers consistent cable travel across movements, even for polypropylene pulleys, according to Caine. 

“I didn’t notice any sticking throughout the movement, although the plastic pulleys aren’t as smooth as aluminum pulleys,” he says. “It was very stable, though. Like, very stable. We didn’t have it bolted down and I did a few pull-ups on the grips up top.” 

“The machine didn’t budge at all, and I’m 300+ pounds,” Caine continues, rating the machine at 4.5 out of 5 for stability (minus the 0.5 for plastic versus aluminum pulleys).

Accessories

The attachments included with your original purchase are limited, Caine calls out, giving the machine a 3 out of 5 for this category. XMark only includes handles for each stack, but you can purchase the brand’s accessory pack separately if you need or want more options (which you most likely will). It does include a built-in multi-grip pull-up bar, though, that adds extra training value without requiring additional attachments. 

Value

According to Caine, the combination of the stack weight, adjustability, and stability makes the XMark Functional Trainer a strong value, and he rates it a 4.5 out of 5 for the category. It’s still on the expensive side compared to some other top functional trainers, but we feel the price point is right for the build quality.

One buyer, who’s had the machine for three years, says, “The instructions were clear, and the pulley system was simple to configure. Once assembled, I was impressed by how smooth the pulleys operate and how solidly the machine is built. It’s sturdy, reliable, and has held up beautifully through years of consistent use. The few negative reviews mention missing parts, and one person said they received a refurbished product when they ordered a new one. Complaints are very few and far between, though.

The REP Arcadia Functional Trainer is one of our top choices for the best overall functional trainers. Compared to the XMark, the Arcadia is more compact and a bit less expensive. Final Verdict of Our XMark Functional Trainer Review

After testing, Caine gives the XMark Functional Trainer an Olympic-sized thumbs up, while calling out a few minor drawbacks like having to bend his knees for pull-ups and feeling limited by the lack of included accessories. 

• The dual 230-pound weight stacks provide more than enough resistance for most people. If you’re an Olympian like Caine, you may feel a bit limited, but 460 pounds is on the high end for at-home functional trainers, regardless.
• 10-pound weight increments work for most everything, but may make progression tougher for certain movements like lateral and front raises. 
• We wish XMark included more accessories with this model instead of having to buy them separately. That said, it does give you the option to purchase accessories from a different brand if you want.

What to Know Before You Buy

• There’s some confusion around the shaft diameter of this barbell. Our testers confirmed a 30-millimeter shaft, but the Major Fitness website specifies that the bar has a 28-millimeter shaft. We still found the bar to perform fine for general use, but competitive athletes may want to look elsewhere for the exact specs they need.
• Major Fitness does not offer this Home Gym Barbell in a 15-kilogram variation. If you’re looking for a “women’s bar” that weighs 15 kilograms and has a thinner shaft diameter, we recommend the Rogue Bella Bar.

Using the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell

Two of our product testers tried the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell: 2020 Olympian Caine Wilkes, CPT, CNC, USAW-L1, and Lindsay Scheele, CPT, CNC.

Caine used the barbell for a two-hour Olympic weightlifting session where he performed snatches as well as clean and jerks, using weights up to 400 pounds. Lindsay used it for several sessions and performed a variety of general strength exercises, including bent-over rows, deadlifts, back and front squats, bench press, and strict overhead press. 

Lindsay calls this Major Fitness barbell “a great bar for cross-training” and explains, “Based on our testing, we felt like the knurling is just grippy enough and holds chalk well enough that it would provide a good fit for CrossFit workouts and training.”

Caine was less impressed, though that has a lot to do with his extensive training and use of high-end barbells. “There’s less flex in the bar during dynamic movements like the clean and jerk,” he tells me.

Tensile Strength

The Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell has a 190,000 PSI tensile strength, which would normally secure a 5-out-of-5 score for this category according to our testing methodology. What’s interesting, however, is that the weight capacity is listed at a mere 750 pounds, which is far lower than what we typically see at this PSI. 

The Bells of Steel Weightlifting Barbell 2.0, for example, has a max weight rating of 1,500 pounds and a tensile strength of 190K PSI. For this reason, we knocked off one point from the tensile strength rating for the Major Fitness barbell; we can’t say for certain whether the weight capacity or tensile strength is more accurate in this case, so we err on the side of caution.

Coating and Finish

Our testers used the black alloy version of the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell. (There’s also a silver version.)

After some weeks in the wild (i.e., our GGR testing center), Lindsay shares, “I have not noticed any marks or dents on the bar. This coating is holding up very well.” 

One thing to note, and why we conservatively rate the coating at 4 out of 5, is that the knurl markings can be hard to see from above the bar due to the black coating. “I had to take a couple of seconds to find the marks before each use,” Lindsay says. 

Durability

Despite its low weight capacity, the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell appears to be durable enough for most athletes and home gym owners. Lindsay and other testers in our GGR center performed a drop test on the barbell to see how it held up. They dropped it from shoulder height in a squat rack with 450 pounds loaded onto the sleeves.

“This bar showed some flex with the amount of weight, but even though it did not fall in unison with that amount of weight, the bar is still solid,” Lindsay says. “There is no evidence of damage from the shoulder-height drop.” Accordingly, we score the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell at 4 out of 5 for durability.

Versatility

All in all, the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell should be versatile enough for most home gym owners. In our testing, it performed adequately for general strength training, CrossFit-style workouts, powerlifting movements, and moderately loaded Olympic weightlifting. Caine rates the versatility at 4.5 out of 5, though, and cautions that serious Olympic weightlifters might want to look elsewhere (such as the Eleiko IWF Training Bar), as he felt a bit limited by the spin on this bar (more on that in a bit). 

Knurling and Grip

This barbell features a mountain-type knurling that is fairly passive, per Lindsay. She notes that it provides a decent grip, with or without the use of lifting chalk, and rates the barbell at 4 out of 5 for the category. 

“Based on our testing, we felt like the knurling is passive but holds chalk well enough that it would be a good fit for CrossFit-style training,” Lindsay adds. “For powerlifting movements, we felt that the knurling was a little too passive and did not provide a solid enough grip.” 

Spin

The spin on this barbell left Caine wanting a bit more. “The spin was a little less than I was expecting, especially since it uses needle bearings,” he tells me in reference to his 3.5-out-of-5 spin rating. “That said, the barbell still moved well and had a good whip for dynamic movements like the clean and jerk.”

Lindsay concurs, saying, “The spin is just OK.” She tested the spin with and without weight on a rack, as well as with and without weight on the floor. “We felt that if you were to really load this bar up with a significant amount of weight for an explosive movement, this bar would not perform as the desired level for heavy Olympic-style training.”

Listed at a price of about $260, the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell is a solid budget buy and earns a score of 4.5 out of 5 from our team. Anything under $300 for a barbell is pretty good these days. You’ll naturally need to make some concessions—like the less-than-ideal spin and lower weight capacity—but it’s still an excellent barbell for the price. Neither of our testers hesitate to recommend it as an all-purpose barbell for general strength training use.

One of the first things we noticed when researching the Major Fitness Home Gym Barbell was the warranty. It’s a paltry one-year policy, which is unusual for barbells. We expect to see at least five years, and honestly, lifetime warranty coverage has become commonplace (even for budget barbells). 

That said, we still give Major Fitness a 3 out of 5 here because they offer 35-day “no-reason” returns, and customers aren’t required to pay return shipping fees as long as the product is in good condition and is returned in the original packaging. So, don’t throw away that barbell tube before giving it a whirl!

The vast majority of customers are happy with their purchase and say the barbell is serving them well in their home gym. Positive reviews tend to focus on the quality of construction and knurling; it appears that many people appreciate the passive knurl pattern. There are very minimal negative reviews, and of the ones I came across, they all have to do with damage during shipping rather than the barbell itself.

GGR founder and expert product tester Coop Mitchell has had plenty of experience with functional trainers, power racks, and cable machines since the site’s creation in 2014. He previously tested the Dane 1.0, and then spent numerous workouts examining the upgraded Dane 2.0. Along with using the half rack functionality, he tried out multiple cable exercises on this functional trainer, noting the cable length, available travel, and versatility of the machine.

The Dane 2.0 uses dual 160-pound weight stacks on the pulleys at a 1:1 ratio, meaning 50 pounds will feel like 50 pounds. A 2:1 ratio, on the other hand, will have half the felt weight, but more cable length. The lengthier cable can be beneficial for certain movements, such as cable crossovers far away from the machine. 

The original Fringe Sport Dane had a 53-inch cable length, which is on the shorter side, in our opinion. The new Dane 2.0, in comparison, features thinner weight stacks, meaning that there’s more travel on these cables—nearly 70 inches. “If you want to do crossovers, cable travel is no longer an issue,” adds Coop. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

The stainless steel can also help prevent scarring and scratching that you may get from trolleys moving up and down on a powder-coated upright.

With other minor refinements, Coop says the Fringe Sport Dane 2.0 is a solid machine. Truth be told, though, he doesn’t feel that it’s a clear second generation of The Dane. “When I think of a true 2.0, I think of a complete reworking,” he explains. “This feels more iterative, like a version 1.2.” 

He doesn’t like the added $300 for minor changes between the two versions, either. That said, compared to higher-priced machines like the REP Ares 2.0, the sub-$3,000 price is certainly worth considering.

Construction and Durability

The Dane 2.0 is built with solid components and materials, which is why it earns a 4.5 out of 5 for construction and durability. 

For one, it uses heavy-duty 11-gauge steel for the rack. The tubing is 3-inch-by-3-inch steel and has 1-inch holes throughout, making it compatible with many other power rack attachments (not just Fringe Sport’s ecosystem). UHMW plastic is strategically placed on attachments and the trolleys, too, to prevent any metal-on-metal contact.

One differing factor from the original Dane functional trainer is the use of red aluminum pulleys…OK, the color isn’t the only difference, although the red highlights of the pulleys and attachment pins is a nice touch. Coop explains, “The pulleys also have a larger diameter from the original, which is more expensive because it requires more metal. That said, it also makes the pull smoother with better bearings.”

Footprint

Coop rates the footprint of the Fringe Sport Dane 2.0 at 4 out of 5. It’s a fairly compact functional trainer with plenty of versatility, making its footprint highly functional while not taking up much more space than your average squat rack. 

The trainer rack combo is 47 inches long and 60 inches wide, but the height of 92 inches might make it a bit too tall for some spaces with low ceilings. It’s also compatible with several storage option attachments (dumbbell shelf, bumper plate rack, and pegboard), but you’ll need to actually own some plates and weights to justify these add-ons.

Delivery and Setup

While we don’t see the assembly process as too problematic, The Dane 2.0 only gets a 3 out of 5 for its delivery and setup. This is a large build, after all, so be prepared for it to take a few hours, at least. We also recommend having a friend help out with setting up the machine given the weight and dimensions of some components.

The Dane 2.0 can be ordered directly from Fringe Sport, and the brand offers free shipping within the contiguous United States. One thing to note is that early on in the release of The Dane 2.0, quite a few customers complained of delivery wait times and delays. Since then, however, it appears there have been far fewer issues according to customer reviews; some customers even praise The Dane’s straightforward (albeit time-consuming) assembly.

Versatility

When looking at the versatility of functional trainers, we want to see how many exercises you can perform well on the machine, so we look at weight stacks, cable height options, and any other functionality.

In the case of The Dane 2.0, Coop rates the versatility at 5 out of 5. There are virtually endless possibilities with this profile, starting with the fact that it’s a functional trainer and half rack in one. The Dane 2.0 functional trainer is compatible with multiple attachments, too, and you even have the option of using non-branded accessories thanks to the 3-inch-by-3-inch uprights.

The 160-pound weight stacks at a 1:1 ratio allow for heavy lifts, so weight shouldn’t be an issue for most folks, either. Some lifters may find it a tad light for lat pulldowns or low rows, but otherwise, the weight stacks and cable length are versatile enough for regular cable machine workout demands. The cables are capable of supporting a dynamic weight of 750 pounds, so you can add weight pins to the stacks and go much heavier, if needed.

Another new yet convenient feature is that the Dane 2.0 has a lighter starting plate of 5 pounds (instead of the original’s 10-pound top plate). This can open the door for some lighter rehab or cable exercises for even more training potential.

Stability

The Dane 2.0 is sturdy, earning a 5 out of 5 for stability. In addition to a heavy-duty rack, The Dane 2.0 comes with extension feet to help provide balance across the frame. This way, when you’re racking your Olympic barbell with hundreds of pounds of weight, it won’t rock or topple forward.

The pulleys feel stable and smooth throughout, too. “This is an incredibly smooth cable system,” adds Coop. “There’s very little friction; you’re not going to get a lot smoother of a pull than this.” The 1:1 pulley ratio helps with this experience, as there’s less mechanics and cable travel going on. As such, there’s less of a chance for things to go wrong, or for your cable to stick along the track.

Accessories

Fringe Sport gets a 4.5-out-of-5 rating for the accessories available for the Dane 2.0. There are many attachments to peruse, but it doesn’t get a perfect score because many of them aren’t included with the standard bundle.

That said, accessories that come with Fringe Sport Dane 2.0 include J-cups, D-handles, spotter arms, extension feet, and a landmine attachment. You can also add on any of the following accessories to your order before checking out:

The Dane 2.0 earns a 4 out of 5 for its value. The slight increase in price from the original Dane puts it very close to the average cost of functional trainers, which our research shows to be around $2,650. The standard Dane 2.0 is $2,799, so it’s slightly more expensive, but it also has the added versatility of a half rack and several attachments (optional and included). 

It’s also made with high-quality materials, so it’s less expensive than other options with similar components. I wouldn’t call it “budget-friendly,” since it is approaching a $3,000 sticker price, but it certainly has high value when compared to the rest of the home gym machine landscape.

Customer Experience

Fringe Sport’s customer service gets plenty of praise from customers—Coop, included. “It’s a good rack and has good components, but if there’s a reason to get this rack, it’s that Fringe Sport will take care of you,” he says, rating the customer experience at 5 out of 5.

The warranty package is solid on The Dane 2.0, as well, with a lifetime warranty on the rack and a five-year warranty on the pulley system. Financing is available through ShopPay, and the functional trainer is HSA- and FSA-eligible.

We also appreciate Fringe Sport’s solid return policy; lightly used items can be returned within 30 days, but unopened, unused products returned within the first 365 days can be eligible for a full refund.

Customer Reviews

At the time of writing, The Dane 2.0 is a certified hit amongst the home gym community with an average customer rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars based on 85 online testimonials—76, of which, are 5-star reviews. Many customers are pleased with the functional trainer, loving the solid build of the machine and also stating that the assembly was fairly straightforward. Some people do note that the video instructions are more helpful than the paper instructions, though.

The lowest rating was a lone 3-star review from May of 2025 (three months after the release of the Dane 2.0). The customer complained that the vertical pin to a weight stack was slightly bent, and the other weight stack was tight, meaning lighter weights would stick on the rails. From my research, some shipping delays and issues occurred during the Dane 2.0’s initial release, but much of that seems to have been resolved; the customer review also has a response from Fringe Sport trying to rectify the issue, which shows the brand’s dedication to excellent service.

To help demonstrate the mid-range price and features of The Dane 2.0, let’s compare it to both a budget functional trainer and rack combo as well as a higher-end combination unit—from Major Fitness and REP Fitness, respectively.

First, let’s look at a less expensive option: The Major Fitness All-In-One Home Gym. This power rack has a plate-loaded cable system and includes many attachments at no additional charge: D-handles, J-hooks, spotter arms, low row foot plate, dip bars, and more. All of this comes in at under $1,000, but the steel used is 14-gauge, which leads to a lower weight capacity (700 pounds) than the Dane 2.0 (1,200 pounds).

You get higher-quality materials and attachments with Fringe Sport’s machine, but at about triple the price than the Major Fitness home gym.

On the other end of the spectrum is the REP Ares 2.0 Cable Attachment, which can be attached to both the PR-4000 and PR-5000 power racks from the same brand. Using similar 11-gauge steel and quality aluminum pulleys, the REP Ares weight stacks are set in the back instead of at the sides to allow for use inside the power rack silhouette. Additionally, the Ares 2.0 uses a 2:1 cable ratio, but the two weight stacks can be combined in the center of the rack for heavier lat pulldowns.

Final Verdict of Our Fringe Sport Dane 2.0 Review

Space is limited in your garage gym, so a machine that combines a functional trainer with a half rack can be a great addition without consuming your entire floor plan. The Dane 2.0 from Fringe Sport is a solidly built functional trainer and half rack made with quality materials that improves upon the first iteration with some minor upgrades.

Although Coop isn’t a fan of the increased price, he likes the build of the rack, along with the smooth trolley travel across the optional stainless steel uprights. Don’t let the elevated cost fool you, either. Maybe it’s not as big of a savings as before, but this trainer has solid quality at a lower price than other premium competitors.

Workout Experience with the Kettlebell Kings Kettlebells

GGR Director of Content Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC is a busy mom of three who refuses to let a packed schedule stop her from staying on top of her fitness game. One of the ways she’s been able to remain consistent is by relying on Kettlebell Kings kettlebells for at-home workouts. As someone who owns ‘bells from multiple brands, Nicole understands the small design nuances that can make a big impact on your training experience. After several years of ownership, let’s just say she’s ready to place Kettlebell Kings kettlebells on their rightful throne. 

Although Nicole has put these kettlebells through it, storing them in the garage during the summer and fall for outdoor workouts, they still work well. The bottoms are a bit rusted, but that doesn’t affect the functionality at all.

Construction

Not all kettlebells are created equal. Thankfully, Kettlebell Kings prioritizes build quality by using single-cast iron with no present welds to create a sturdy, stable free weight profile. This is our preferred manufacturing method, as welded models can be more prone to durability issues and balance inconsistencies. 

Speaking of balance, you won’t have to worry about that, according to Nicole. “The bottom is flat, so no issue there,” she says in reference to her 5-out-of-5 construction rating. “These are also very sturdy.” 

In addition, these kettlebells feature a high-quality powder coat finish. In our experience, this slightly textured, matte material provides more friction and a better overall grip than e-coat or glossy overlays. This can particularly come in handy (no pun intended) when performing classic exercises like kettlebell swings, cleans, presses, and carries—especially if you train without chalk.

Durability

Earning a rock-solid durability score of 4 out of 5, you can count on Kettlebell Kings kettlebells to survive repeated use. In fact, even Nicole seems impressed with how well hers have held up. “I’ve had these for almost three years and they still function great,” she explains. 

This integrity can be attributed to the single-cast design that helps prevent cracking, loosening, or other structural failures that can be more prominent across welded silhouettes. If you’re routinely dropping your ‘bells (overtop proper home gym flooring, of course) then you’re likely to appreciate this burlier design.

Nicole did dock one point off the durability score, though, due to some visible rusting and chipping. That said, she admittedly took some responsibility for rust forming on the bottom. “It was probably my fault for leaving these outside in the garage during most of the year,” she explains. Luckily, the chipped coating on two of her lighter weights has, as she states, “No effect on the actual functionality.”  

Handle

Despite an ergonomic shape and comfortable diameter, the handle on these Kettlebell Kings kettlebells isn’t the best we’ve tested. At the same time, it’s not a major detriment to your workout experience. 

There’s no specific information available on the handle diameter for each size in the Kettlebell Kings lineup, Nicole says her 15-kilogram kettlebells have a 35-millimeter handle diameter, which is right around the average (34.87 millimeters).  She also has 6-kg and 8-kg models that measure just over 32 millimeters. 

“My hands are on the smaller side and these grips are fine for me,” she says. “For reference, I have a 24-kg powder coat Rogue kettlebell that has a large diameter handle, and I struggle with that one a bit if I have to go one-handed.”

While we’re OK with the varying grip diameters, we still rate the handle at a conservative 3 out of 5 since these kettlebells can present some grip issues, depending on the elements. 

“Especially in the summer when my hands get moist during a workout, I notice that the grip slips on the 15s, so chalk would be ideal,” Nicole says. “If I’m not overly hot, I have no issues, but this would be important if you sweat when you work out.”

Weight Options

Kettlebell Kings offers these kettlebells in a wide range of sizes ranging from 9 pounds to 97 pounds. This can provide ample flexibility for progressive overload, which is shown to promote gains in muscular strength and hypertrophy¹. This assortment also makes it easier for beginners to get started with manageable weights. Kettlebell Kings uses a precise gravity casting process to ensure each bell meets international weight standards—something you don’t see on cheaper ‘bells. 

Furthermore, we appreciate that these kettlebells have color-coded handles and dual weight markings for easy identification. This can be a particularly user-friendly feature that can help keep your workouts efficient; you don’t have to do any conversions or calculations mid-training. Overall, these earned a perfect weight options score of 5 out of 5.

Purchasing/Shipping

Although Nicole awarded a 4-out-of-5 rating in this category, it’s important to note that the purchasing process is different than when she acquired her Kettlebell Kings kettlebells several years ago. At that time, she was able to purchase them directly from the company website. At the time of this review, though, that appears to no longer be the case. 

“These seem to only be available on third-party retail sites like Amazon and Walmart now, but they do offer free shipping,” Nicole explains. “However, just as I’m looking today, the weight options do seem slim.” 

After doing some more digging, I can confirm some of those availability concerns. Amazon does have a few different sizes available, but the entire range is not offered online. Ditto for Walmart. So, even though you may get free shipping from these third-party retailers, you may struggle to find specific sizes. 

Another factor to consider: You can’t buy these in pairs or sets. That could be frustrating for folks looking to build a robust collection in a single purchase. If that’s the case, you may want to look at another option like the REP Fitness Kettlebell Set.

Overall Value

Available for roughly $4.50 per kilogram on Amazon, these kettlebells are priced fairly, according to Nicole. However, they’re significantly more expensive at Walmart, making the former a more attractive option. 

Ultimately, though, are these a wise investment? I’ll let our expert break it down: 

“These are worth the money—they are super solid and still work great after three years of heavy use,” Nicole says. “I already had a random 25-pound kettlebell from Amazon, and I also added a 24-kg powder coat model from Rogue. I like the KB Kings ones just as much as the Rogue one; they’re about the same price and feel similar in quality.”

The takeaway here: If you are able to find the Kettlebell Kings kettlebells you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed with your purchase. As a result, we rate the value at a 4 out of 5.

Customer Service

Unfortunately, because you cannot purchase these kettlebells directly from the manufacturer, you’re subject to the retailer’s return policy. In Amazon’s case, that’s just a 30-day window. On the other hand, Walmart offers a 90-day return policy. That’s a sizable difference that may be worth considering if you have any hesitation about investing in these ‘bells.

From afar, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between a kettlebell from Kettlebell Kings and GIANT Lifting. I personally tested the V3 Kettlebell from GIANT, and based on Nicole’s feedback, it’s clear the two brands have constructed very similar products. 

Both kettlebells boast the same single-piece cast iron design with a powder-coated finish. They also both feature color-coded handles and dual weight markings; a nice aesthetic and functional touch that makes it easy to switch weights mid-workout. However, while Nicole only rated the Kettlebell Kings’ handle at 3 out of 5, I gave the V3 Kettlebell a perfect score.

We consider how well a treadmill can accommodate a wide range of fitness levels and workout types, like flat, fast runs and hill sessions. To achieve such setups and intensities, a machine should have worthwhile speed and incline ranges. We award a benchmark 3-out-of-5 rating to treadmills capable of speeds up to 10 MPH, as well as machines offering incline settings between 0 and 15%. Top scores are given to profiles with faster speed capabilities as well as those with larger incline ranges (some, of which, are even capable of decline settings).

To examine this factor, our testers complete several workouts on each treadmill using either onboard programming or the brand’s integrated fitness programming software. We’ll complete a handful of sessions, taking note of the training’s engagement, ease of operation, and available variety. Treadmills can earn a 3 out of 5 here if they offer at least a handful of preset workout modules, with higher ratings reserved for machines compatible with digital training services with large libraries of streamable training programs.

A home treadmill should be comfortable, after all. Accordingly, we assess deck cushioning and available running space to determine overall comfort at different paces. A score of 3 out of 5 indicates that a treadmill features a relatively accommodating running surface measuring at least 55 inches long by 18 inches wide with some built-in cushioning system for underfoot comfort. Higher scores are awarded to more spacious running decks or machines with well-executed cushioning tech.

What to Know Before You Buy

• The Bowflex T6 has an integrated tablet holder, but no built-in touchscreen. Its LCD display offers basic workout metrics, but you’ll need a tablet to stream entertainment or workout classes.
• Bowflex uses JRNY programming, which is solid, but not our favorite. This treadmill is also compatible with Zwift and Peloton for data tracking and workout logging.
• If you live in a small space, the Bowflex T6 probably isn’t for you. While our tester found it manageable to move around, it’s still quite large and needs a dedicated space.

The answer is always, “It depends,” but in the case of the Bowflex T6 treadmill, we can confidently say it’s worth it for almost anyone who’s in the market for a treadmill. The price is absolutely right for the features, and it’s backed by a lifetime frame-and-motor warranty for added peace of mind.

Experience Using the Bowflex T6 Treadmill

GGR expert tester Cait Giddings spent enough time with the Bowflex T6 to get acquainted with all its features. In particular, she enjoyed speed workouts on this treadmill, stating, “I cranked the speed up to a sprint, and at no point did I feel like I was going to slide off the back of the machine or take a wide step off the side of the deck.”

She adds, “I also appreciated how short the side arms are. It’s easy to hit a fast running pace and swing your arms without worrying that you’re going to slam an elbow into one.” 

With many treadmills, making adjustments to your speed and incline can feel cumbersome and annoying, and even prevent you from doing so mid-run in some cases. That’s not so with the T6, according to Cait. “I particularly like the front handholds that allow you to change pace and incline using a smooth-feeling dial.”

If you struggle with joint or shin pain during running, a cushioned treadmill like the Bowflex T6 can also be a good way to reduce joint impact. Research has shown that treadmill running reduces tibial shock (impact to the shinbone) compared to road running¹.

Footprint and Portability

This is a BIG treadmill—emphasis on “big,” per Cait. “It doesn’t have a very compact footprint because the running deck is so long and wide,” she says. She’s quick to point out, though, that a large deck can be ideal for running. 

The Bowflex T6 measures 76 inches (6.3 feet) long by 35 inches (about 3 feet) wide by 71 inches (just under 6 feet) high. When folded, it’s just 44 inches (3.6 feet) long, but the width and height measurements remain the same. 

Still, Cait rates this folding treadmill at 4 out of 5 for footprint and portability, saying, “I was able to lift the deck to fold it up with no issues, tilt it back onto its wheels, and move it around the warehouse by myself. So, it’s definitely portable, but even when folded, it takes up a lot of space in a room.”

Delivery and Setup

Bowflex offers three shipping options for the T6 treadmill: 

• Standard (to your door) for $199 
• Room-of-choice delivery for $249
• Room-of-choice delivery and assembly for $349 

Note that none of these options are available for buyers in Alaska or Hawaii; those outside of the contiguous U.S. will need to look elsewhere for a treadmill. 

We’re bummed to see a lack of free standard shipping, as that’s become pretty standard across treadmill brands. That said, it’s typical for anything beyond standard front-door shipping to cost extra. Cait still rates the delivery and setup process at 4 out of 5 because while it does take some time to assemble, Bowflex’s instructions are clear and easy to follow. “The professional might be worth springing for, depending on your budget and patience with assembly projects, but the process should be manageable for most,” she says.

Durability

The Bowflex T6 surpasses our benchmark standards for a 3-point score in the durability category. Its 325-pound maximum user weight capacity and 3.0-HP treadmill motor earn it a perfect 5 out of 5. 

“It feels like a tank—big, heavy, and like it’s unlikely to wear down quickly with use,” Cait says. “When I cranked up the speed to the max and ran on it, the tread felt solid and sturdy beneath me with no swaying, rocking, or hitches. Everything felt smooth and well-built.”

Customizations

Our customizations rating refers to the ability to customize workout variables to meet different training needs. For treadmills, that mainly means the speed and incline ranges. The Bowflex T6 meets industry averages for top speed (12 MPH) and exceeds the average for incline (15% compared to the typical 12%). 

“It’s rare to see a range this big on a treadmill in this price range,” Cait says in reference to her 5-out-of-5 rating. “The incline simulates a real hike or mountain run. Anyone looking for a good range on their treadmill for high-level running will be more than happy with this machine.” 

The only downside, Cait points out, is that it doesn’t decline for simulated downhill running. If you’re looking to mimic the outdoor running paths you’re likely to encounter with your best trail running shoes, you’ll need to opt for a different (oftentimes, more expensive) home treadmill profile.

Ergonomics

The Bowflex T6 treadmill features a running area that is 20 inches wide by 60 inches long, which Cait calls, “A nice size for running.” It is, in fact, the recommended size for most runners, though a 22-inch width can be ideal for larger or taller athletes.

Cait says she felt stable and balanced on the T6’s running deck, even when putting forth full-sprint efforts. Plus, the belt feels thick and well-cushioned, she notes. The running belt’s FlexZone cushion is 1.6 millimeters thick; double our 0.8-millimeter benchmark for a 3-point score.

The T6 treadmill also sports quick-change dials for intra-workout adjustments, which only bolstered our 5-out-of-5 rating justification. “I particularly like the front handholds that allow you to change pace and incline using the integrated QuickDial system,” Cait adds. We’d have to agree: This style is substantially more comfortable and easier to use compared to traditional on-console click buttons.

Tech Capabilities

With its Bluetooth connectivity, smartwatch compatibility, and multi-app support, the Bowflex T6 almost earned a perfect score for its tech package. Cait knocked off one point for a score of 4 out of 5 because there’s no integrated touchscreen display. That said, Bowflex does include a convenient media shelf for DIY streaming setups.

“If you have your own Bluetooth-synced tablet, there’s no shortage of tech integration here,” Cait says. “The treadmill integrates with popular workout apps like JRNY, Peloton, Zwift, and more for interactive workouts. It also syncs with an Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch for fitness tracking.”

As a full-fledged subscriber to the Garmin ecosystem, I’m disappointed to learn that Garmin isn’t in the Bowflex club. However, even that wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me regarding the T6 treadmill; it’s still a high-quality machine. 

To measure your heart rate while running, you can connect a compatible heart rate monitor or use the hand sensors on the railings. With the latter, you’ll get real-time (albeit less accurate) readouts, along with time, distance, calories, speed, incline, pace, laps, split timer, and segment time.

Conveniences

You won’t be missing any creature comforts when running on the T6. For starters, the console is incredibly well designed with lots of ways to quickly adjust the speed and incline across the handholds and display. 

“You can crank up both using a little wheel or instant number adjustments that make it a snap to go from 1 MPH to 12 MPH as fast as the belt can speed up,” Cait raves. 

The console also has a second media shelf (in addition to the main device holder) and two water bottle holders. Plus, there’s a fairly powerful built-in fan in the middle of the console with three power settings. It also has Bluetooth speakers, so you can play music without headphones. 

Dynamic Programming

Bowflex’s proprietary workout streaming platform is JRNY, which you can use with the T6 treadmill. It’s robust enough for engaging weekly workouts, though we think iFIT workouts beat out the library available via JRNY in terms of variety and engagement. That said, you don’t have to stick with the JRNY app for this treadmill. 

In fact, the console doesn’t have a touchscreen, so most of the interactive programming comes through syncing with third-party fitness apps like Zwift and Peloton. We honestly really like the flexibility here. If you already subscribe to, say, Zwift, there’s no need to stack on another subscription to enjoy all of the features of the T6.

The basic digital LCD screen has a few limited workout modes of its own, too, like rolling hills or intervals, for those who prefer something quick and basic. In total, we rate the dynamic programming at 4.5 out of 5.

Value

You’re truly getting a lot for your money here, folks. Take it from Cait: “This machine feels super-sturdy and well-built for a sub-$1,300 treadmill. It doesn’t have quite the smooth, cushioned pad of a really high-end, gym-level treadmill, but that’s rare for anything under $2,000.”

Cait continues, stating, “For the functionality, durability, ease of use, and most importantly, wide speed/incline range, I think $999 is a good [sales] price. That said, if you don’t have your own tablet and you’re looking for an integrated screen, this isn’t the treadmill for you.”

Customer Experience

The warranty on this Bowflex machine is as good as it gets for treadmills: Lifetime coverage on the frame and motor (the most important bits). You also get two years on all other parts, plus a year of coverage for labor. Additional protection plans are available for an added cost.

The company also has a 30-day return policy for a full refund, which is the industry standard and generous given you’ll probably notice any defects or damage well before the 30 days are up. You are, unfortunately, on the hook for the freight shipping cost. Your refund will be less that amount, and you might be subject to a restocking fee. This is all annoying, but not out of the ordinary for cardio machines like this.

Customer Reviews

Customer reviews are generally positive for the T6, with most in the 4 to 5 range. At the time of writing, the Bowflex T6 has a 4.5-star rating on Bowflex and a 4.2-star rating on DICK’S Sporting Goods.

Most buyers find it to be quiet and easy to use, with some people complaining about the Bluetooth connectivity being finicky and others calling out issues with damaged packaging upon delivery. That’s typically not the fault of the manufacturer, but rather the carrier. It’s still frustrating, though.

On the Bowflex website, one buyer says, “This treadmill has reignited my love for running! The Peloton app works seamlessly with this treadmill, making workouts a blast.”

To provide some contrast to the Bowflex T6, let’s examine two other popular treadmill profiles that we’ve extensively tested: The Horizon 7.0 AT and NordicTrack Commercial 1750.

When you compare the Bowflex T6 and the Horizon 7.0 AT, you’re really looking at two solid, budget-friendly treadmills that are great for everyday home workouts. The T6 has a responsive drive system with up to 15% incline and robust app connectivity (train with JRNY, Peloton, Zwift, or track metrics with a compatible fitness tracker). Meanwhile, the Horizon 7.0 AT keeps things straightforward but effective with Bluetooth connectivity and a simple LCD console that also plays nicely with third-party apps, making it easy to stream workouts from a variety of sources.

Putting the T6 up against the NordicTrack Commercial 1750, you’ll notice some differences in tech and ergonomics (as well as price). The T6 gives you a generous running deck, plenty of incline, and the ability to use your own phone/tablet with apps you already love, which is great if you want flexibility without a big upfront cost. 

The NordicTrack 1750, on the other hand, brings an integrated touchscreen, iFIT compatibility unlocking thousands of trainer-led workouts, automatic adjustments to speed and incline, and a slightly more powerful motor designed for more frequent and varied training. You will, however, be paying for these features, with the list price of the 1750 sitting about $1,200 higher than that of the T6.

A Quick Look at the Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0

Bells of Steel (B.o.S.) is a Canada-founded strength equipment brand started in 2010 by Kaevon Khoozani to make durable, well-designed gym gear more affordable and accessible for home gym owners. The company offers a wide range of products—from barbells and kettlebells to racks, benches, and functional trainers—built to balance quality with fair pricing, and we think the brand stands up to that promise. As you’ll learn in this review, the Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Bar 2.0 is the epitome of that brand ethos. 

Before You Buy

• There is a slight difference in the loadable sleeve length between the two available finishes on this bar. The chrome finish bar has a loadable sleeve length of 16.3 inches (414 millimeters), while the Cerakote finish barbell has a loadable sleeve length of 17.5 inches (445 millimeters). This difference of more than 1 inch can make a big difference in maximum loading, depending on your weight plates of choice.
• There’s also a slight difference in max loading capacity: 1,543 pounds for the chrome and 1,500 for the Cerakote. This difference is more-or-less negligible unless you plan on becoming the next World’s Strongest Man. 
• Our tester points out that the knurling is medium, so if you’re used to more aggressive knurling, this bar might feel a little slippery. 

Is the Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0 Worth It?

According to product tester and GGR Director of Content Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC, yes, it is. “It’s a great bar!” she tells me. “I’m not lifting crazy-heavy weights (like our very own Olympian Caine Wilkes, she points out), but the entire experience feels really good.” 

Plus, as she so rightly calls out, “Between the limited lifetime warranty, the weight capacity and the tensile strength, you’re getting a ton for your money here at a maximum $330.”

Workout Experience Using the Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0

Nicole has been working out with the Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0 for several weeks and, overall, feels extremely pleased with it. “I haven’t worked with a barbell consistently over the last two years, and this feels like a great intro or beginner bar for someone who wants value but quality,” she says, adding that it can certainly work for more advanced athletes, as well.

Without a squat rack, Nicole admits she’s limited on the exercises she can do with a barbell. Accordingly, she primarily does deadlifts, rows, and presses with the B.o.S. bar. “I typically work with kettlebells and dumbbells, so having the option to use a bar has been great just to switch things up.” 

She’s also been working on her power cleans with it and notes that it performs well for that snappy lift in addition to the slower movements like deadlifts. Let’s dive deeper and see how Nicole rates the Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0 in other key areas.

Tensile Strength 

The Bells of Steel Olympic Weightlifting Barbell 2.0 easily met our benchmarks for tensile strength with a 190,000 PSI rating on the Cerakote version and an impressive 240,000 PSI rating on the hardened chrome silhouette. Nicole rates it a 5 out of 5 for this category, pointing out that 240,000 PSI is quite high for the price point at hand.

Coating and Finish 

You have two options to choose from with this Bells of Steel offering. There’s a hardened chrome shaft with hardened chrome sleeves or a Cerakote shaft with gold titanium-plated sleeves. Nicole got the hardened chrome version and rates the coating a 4 out of 5. “So far, so good,” she says after a few weeks of testing, “But it will probably wear down over time.” 

This is simply a fact of chrome—it’s prone to wear. If you’re worried about that (which you should be if your barbell will live in a non-climate-controlled environment like a humid garage), we recommend “splurging” on the Cerakote. Splurge is definitely a loose term in this instance because it only costs $10 more. 

Durability

“All signs point to exceptional durability,” Nicole says, alluding to the limited lifetime warranty, 240,000 PSI tensile strength, and 1,500-pound weight capacity. Time will tell, of course, but her first impressions and early experience with the barbell lead her to rate it with 4.5 out of 5 points for the category. 

Versatility

It doesn’t get much more versatile than this, folks. Nicole gives the Bells of Steel Weightlifting Bar 2.0 a perfect 5-out-of-5 score in for this criterion, saying, “Although this is marketed as a weightlifting bar, I think it’s really versatile. It has good spin, dual knurl marks and 28.5-millimeter diameter, so you can really do just about anything with it.” 

Nicole does point out that the barbell knurling is not particularly toothy—Bells of Steel lists it as medium—so it may lack a bit for those who want to perform very heavy deadlifts or are accustomed to more aggressive knurling (like the kind found on powerlifting barbells).

Speaking of knurling, Nicole confirms, “This is a certified medium knurl.” As such, she rates it a 4 out of 5.

In general, if you plan to use your barbell for both Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting, as well as regular strength training or accessory lifts, bearings are best.

It costs about $320 for the chrome version (roughly $330 for Cerakote), which is right around the median range for barbells. However, it’s stacked with features we don’t always see in the midrange, which elevates the bang for your buck. 

The needle bearing sleeve construction is a primary example, as is the 240,000 PSI tensile strength. The lifetime warranty, 1,500-pound weight capacity, and overall versatility of this barbell beef up the value proposition, too.

Nicole, again, calls out the limited lifetime warranty in this category, giving Bells of Steel 5 out of 5 points for customer experience. One four-star reviewer writes, “Allow me to preface my review with: before this bar, I have only used fancy Swedish bars in fancy Swedish gyms. The bar was a little stiffer than I expected, but my only real complaint is the knurling, which I thought could be more aggressive…Spin is totally fine. There is a bit of lateral play on the sleeves, but it’s totally fine. I think it may contribute to the bar bouncing to the side when it’s dropped, but it’s not noticeable when lifting.”

These high-quality adjustable dumbbell handles are thick and knurled like a barbell, and they use square 2.5-pound weight plates to make 5-pound adjustments from 5 to 75 pounds (or 2.5-pound adjustments for uneven dumbbell training). An add-on kit can be purchased, as well, which can take your dumbbell working totals as high as 165 pounds.

The Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell is part of the Quick-Lock ecosystem, allowing you to attach the same weight plates to the kettlebell handle through the use of the quick-lock dials—a spin-lock screw that twists through the center of each weight plate. While secure and stable in its own right, this locking pin design can also be beneficial thanks to its flat-faced nature that can help keep free weights comfortable when rested against your body in racked positions.

The kettlebell’s empty handle weighs either 12.5 or 22.5 pounds, depending on which profile you purchase. We tested out the 22.5-pound version, but they’re both made similarly with a powder-coated cast iron construction.

Before You Buy

• If you have the QLDB set, you can simply use the weights from the dumbbells. However, if you’re new to Ironmaster, you will need to purchase a separate weight kit for the QLKB (Quick-Lock Kettlebell).
• Ironmaster offers free shipping to the lower 48 states. People in Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada will see shipping options and costs during the checkout process, but other international shoppers will need to contact Ironmaster directly for a quote.
• If you’re also in the market for adjustable dumbbells, purchasing a custom adjustable dumbbell package (which can include the QLKB, dumbbell stand, and extra weights) can save you a good bit on your order. Is the Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell Worth It?

Frankly, the Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell Handle is a great product; Ironmaster has a reputation for producing durable goods for the home gym crowd, and this kettlebell handle is no different. Ironmaster believes in the product, too, offering a limited lifetime warranty with the handle.

Still, the amount of value you’ll see in this adjustable kettlebell will likely come from whether or not you’ve already invested in the Ironmaster Quick-Lock system. If you already own the brand’s dumbbells, you’re paying (at most) $99 for the 22.5-pound handle. However, if you don’t have the adjustable weight, you’ll have to get the weight kit for an additional $139. To reach 80 pounds (for the heavier handle), you’ll also need to buy the expansion kit, which is another $115. 

Depending on your situation, the kettlebell handle can cost as much as roughly $350, making it a much lower value than other available options. The Bells of Steel Adjustable Competition-Style Kettlebell, for example, can reach as much as 70 pounds and is $20 less. The Titan Fitness Plate-Loadable Kettlebell Swing, on the other hand, costs $75 and is compatible with standard change plates that you’d use with your Olympic barbell.

Accordingly, we rate the price at 2.5 out of 5. If you have Quick-Lock weight plates already, this is great value, but otherwise, you may have to consider the other available options.

Using the Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell

The Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell was tested out by certified personal trainer (and GGR Senior Staff Writer) Stephen Sheehan. He took the kettlebell handle through multiple kettlebell exercises to get a feel for the free weight’s shape and grip. These movements included a range of kettlebell snatches, swings, goblet squats, and more.

Stephen was most impressed by the actual grip and its ergonomics, rating the handle quality at 5 out of 5. With a grip diameter of 1.375 inches (about 35 millimeters) on the 22.5-pound handle, it’s about the size of your standard fixed kettlebell—ideal for building grip strength as seen in a 2015 study¹. With the powder-coated exterior, it gives you a good grip during exercises, too. “It’s wide and grippy enough for both one- and two-hand kettlebell exercises,” adds Stephen.

Unlike the handle, the shape of the bell didn’t impress Stephen nearly as much. “The handle itself resembles a standard kettlebell,” Stephen reiterates. “However, it uses square weight plates, giving it an odd shape. Plus, it’s totally flat on the bottom.” The odd square shape and flat end may make catching a kettlebell snatch or clean awkward or downright uncomfortable. As such, Stephen gives the kettlebell shape a 2.5 out of 5.

Let’s look into other aspects of this adjustable kettlebell handle.

Construction and Durability

When it comes to adjustable dumbbells and kettlebells, the most durable pieces of equipment are those that tend to avoid plastic components, especially when it comes to the inner workings. Ironmaster succeeds in making a durable product with its completely metal build, earning a 4.5 out of 5 for the construction. The powdercoat finish of the handle and weight plates is also high-quality. “It all feels heavy-duty in use,” Stephen mentions.

Stephen rates the overall durability slightly lower, however, at 4 out of 5. “The adjustable design with the weight plates makes me a little wary about dropping it,” he explains. He’s right; while accidents can happen, we usually recommend not dropping adjustable dumbbells or kettlebells outright. 

This kettlebell, in particular, has a greater chance of being dropped on its quick-lock screw, since it’s located directly on the bottom of the kettlebell. So, while we consider this a highly durable adjustable kettlebell, I wouldn’t recommend dropping it if you can avoid it.

Weight Range

When using the 22.5-pound kettlebell handle and standard weight kit, you can add weight plates in 2.5-pound increments to reach a maximum weight of 57.5 pounds; the 12.5-pound handle starts and ends 10 pounds lighter. You can also purchase an add-on kit with a longer quick-lock screw and a 22.5-pound weight plate, giving you room to reach a max weight of 80 pounds (70 pounds with the lighter 12.5-pound handle).

The Ironmaster kettlebell handle has the potential to reach substantial weight, especially for an adjustable kettlebell profile. Still, we rate the weight range at 4 out of 5 because the extra weights are all additional purchases.

Adjustment Speed

Honestly, if you’re in the market for a quick-changing adjustable kettlebell, look elsewhere. The name “quick-lock” doesn’t describe the weight-changing process very well, as the kettlebell handle is essentially a loadable dumbbell handle. You’ll have to unscrew the quick-lock dial, add or remove weight plates, and then screw the dial back in to properly secure the kettlebell weights.

It’s not as bad as having to use an Allen wrench for an adjustable competition-style kettlebell, but it’s still a process, nonetheless. Stephen rates the adjustment speed at 2.5 out of 5.

If you close your eyes (although we don’t advise it because kettlebells are heavy) when using the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebells, you will think that you are using a regular kettlebell. The adjustment mechanism works quickly and efficiently, allowing you to make seamless transitions during your workouts.

To show the many differences between adjustable kettlebell designs, let’s compare the Ironmaster Quick-Lock system to the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell—our current pick for the best adjustable kettlebell. Both are solid options but can cater to different audiences depending on what you’re looking for in your kettlebells.

The REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell comes in three different weight ranges:

That said, each kettlebell has its perks. If you’re looking for a quick adjustment system, REP Fitness certainly has the better option. Meanwhile, the Ironmaster QLKB handle offers the potential to go heavier and will end up costing less if you already have a pair of the brand’s adjustable dumbbells at your disposal. Stephen rates the customer experience at 4.5 out of 5. Even though there are somewhat limited ways to contact the company (I could only find phone and email options), Ironmaster has pretty solid policies for potential buyers.

Amongst these policies, Ironmaster provides a 30-day satisfaction guarantee; the company simply asks to have the equipment in its original packaging and securely fastened to prevent any scratching during the return shipping.

The Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell Handle is also backed by a limited lifetime warranty. As long as you use the equipment as directed in the instruction manual, any issues or defective parts will be replaced not including any natural wear from the finish of the kettlebell.

Ordering and Assembling the Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell

The Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell is available only through the company website, but shipping is included if you reside in the contiguous United States. Although Ironmaster offers financing through Affirm, it appears that they don’t offer it for the $99 kettlebell handle, likely because it’s a smaller purchase than some of their bigger products (like the Ironmaster Super Bench Pro V2).

Assembling the adjustable kettlebell handle is fairly simple, too, as you’re just adding or removing weights. One important thing to note is that the instruction manual specifies to always align the weight plates so that the Ironmaster logo is facing outward. Doing otherwise might cause unnecessary damage to your equipment (and void your warranty).

Customer Reviews

At the time of this writing, Ironmaster has a perfect 5-out-of-5 score from a total of 58 customer reviews. Normally, with that high of a score, I might perceive that companies may delete their bad reviews to inflate their scores, but Ironmaster seems to be a legitimate and established brand, so I doubt that’s the case in this instance.

As the score would imply, reviews were positive, although many of them focused on the value of the kettlebell handle if you already had the Ironmaster dumbbells. The value is certainly there, as long as you’ve bought into the Ironmaster ecosystem already. Many reviews said if you already had the Ironmaster weight plates, this was a “no-brainer.”

Aside from the value, customers also appreciate the solid construction of the kettlebell, particularly the grippy and comfortable handle itself.

Final Verdict of Our Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell Review

The Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell Handle is a well-constructed adjustable kettlebell. While it’s certainly a solid option for a durable adjustable kettlebell that can go heavy, it can get quite pricey if you need to purchase a weight kit along with the kettlebell handle. However, if you already have the dumbbell handles and plates from Ironmaster, then this can be a great addition to your home gym setup.

• Although it’s an entirely metal construction, the Ironmaster Kettlebell Handle shouldn’t be dropped, as you’ll be exposing the quick-lock screw to most of the direct impact.
• Depending on which handle you go with, you have the potential to go up to 70 or 80 pounds with this kettlebell handle—well above the average weight we’ve seen in the category.
• The quick-lock dial locks quickly, but changing weights is still a somewhat tedious process. This isn’t the best pick if you’re looking for quick weight changes during your kettlebell workout.
