Higher Dose PEMF Mat top view from modles head laying on mat

As someone who has a profound respect for science and spirituality, I’ve found that no product blends the best of these two worlds quite like grounding mats. While they’re increasingly popular muscle recovery tools utilized by everyone from elite athletes to office workers, there’s still skepticism about their effectiveness.

Whether you’re already in the pro-grounding mat camp or still need a little convincing about the potential health benefits, we’re here to clear the air.

Our team of CPTs, fitness enthusiasts, and recovery-minded athletes researched, tested, and evaluated 10 of the best grounding mats on the market to determine which ones are worthwhile and which profiles you can likely pass on. Using a 1-5 scoring scale, we utilized our in-depth fitness testing methodology to evaluate key categories such as:

  • Materials and Durability: To earn at least a 3 in this category, the mat should feel durable enough that it holds up for at least one year.
  • Effects: To receive a 3 out of 5 or higher, the mat should help you experience at least slight improvements in energy levels, stress relief, or sleep quality with consistent use.
  • Portability: The highest scores go to mats that are extremely lightweight, easy to roll, and come with straps or other ways to keep them secured.
  • Ease of Cleaning: We assign the highest scores to mats that can be thrown in the washing machine for quick and easy cleaning.
  • Value: To earn a 3 or higher, the mat must be well-priced and of sufficient quality to justify the cost.

In addition to our research and testing data, we consulted with GGR chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, for further insight on sleep, recovery, and stress management. We helped more than 3,300 people find their ideal recovery equipment in 2025, and we’re here to help you stay #grounded for years to come.

What our tester says:

“The effects are present after repeated use, but you definitely need to trust the process since there isn’t much feedback from the mat in terms of tingling or warmth.”

Checking critical boxes for value, durability, and portability, the Hooga Grounding Mat earns the top spot on our list. GGR Editor and longtime athlete Ben Emminger, NASM-CNC, NASM-CSNC, rated this ultra-affordable mat a perfect 5 out of 5 for cost, noting, “At roughly $30, it’s a budget-friendly step into grounding and can be ideal for wallet-minded athletes or those curious about the discipline.”

Plus, we love that Hooga (which also makes one of our favorite red light therapy devices) gives you 60 days to test out this mat, which should be ample time to determine if this low-cost investment in your health and wellness routine is worthwhile.

Durability: 4/5

Value: 5/5

While the average grounding mat costs roughly $140, the Hooga provides unbeatable bang for your buck at around $25.

Why We Like the Hooga Grounding Mat

While other grounding mats can cost upwards of $120 or more, Ben was impressed by Hooga’s sub-$50 profile. So, what exactly do you get for your money?

The mat is made of a lightweight conductive carbon that folds easily. It also has a non-slip base and a waterproof top side. Accordingly, Ben rated the build materials at a 4 out of 5. “It’s durable enough that I wouldn’t be surprised to get multiple years of use out of this,” he told me. “I also appreciate the 15-foot grounding cord that allows for varied setups within reach of a grounded outlet.”

Of course, a grounding mat is no good if you don’t experience any tangible benefits or effects. While you shouldn’t expect much tingling or warmth like you would from the best foot massagers, Ben still gave the Hooga 3.75 out of 5 stars, offering a critical piece of advice.

“The effects are present after repeated use, but you definitely need to trust the process since there isn’t much feedback from the mat, at least in my case,” he explains. “But I do feel like my energy levels have increased and joint pains have lessened since adopting this mat into my regular setup.”

The mat is incredibly lightweight at just 1 pound, and you can easily store this in a closet or underneath furniture without any issues.

GGR Editor Ben Emminger, NASM-CNC, NASM-CSNC

Alternatives

The one area where Hooga fell short is customer experience, earning a below-average score of 2 out of 5. There’s no mention of a warranty package, and returns are handled via Amazon, which can be hit-or-miss depending on your experience with the brand. Ultimately, though, it’s hard to be too critical given the budget-friendly price point.

“At roughly $30, I’m not exactly looking for extensive product support and would be OK with just eating the smaller investment if problems were to arise down the road,” Ben told me.

Additionally, Ben states the excessive cord length “can be bulky and cluttered” when using the mat underneath an office desk. He also pointed out that this mat is not machine washable, but maintenance is fairly simple; he still rated it a 4-out-of-5 for ease of cleaning.

“The lightweight nature of the mat means picking up the material for a quick wipe-down is less of a chore,” Ben adds.

If you can afford to splurge, the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat is a premium product that earned the highest effectiveness score out of all the grounding mats we tested. However, at $699, it’s in a completely different price range than the ultra-affordable Hooga mat.

If you’re willing to splurge, the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat is a premium recovery tool that offers potential benefits such as reduced stress, increased energy, and holistic recovery. It uses pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) and infrared heat technology — both of which are supported by research. However, the $700 price tag may preclude some users from going all-in on this high-end grounding mat.

At a Glance

  • Features PEMF technology and infrared heat
  • Premium build materials
  • Heavier than most mats
  • Lackluster warranty based on cost

A more portable, compact version of their popular full-sized Infrared PEMF Mat, the Go model from HigherDOSE utilizes the same pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) technology to ground you in the Earth’s magnetic field. Combined with infrared heat (just like you get with the best infrared saunas), this can help promote deep relaxation and relieve stress, all while remaining compact enough to take with you into the office for a mid-afternoon meditation break.

Our expert product tester was proud to report that this premium mat provided outstanding effectiveness, earning a perfect 5-out-of-5 rating in this critical category. When using the PEMF Go Mat on its highest heat setting, she was able to wind down incredibly quickly.

“I use this setting before bed and lay on it while reading; it puts me right to sleep! It’s the best way to calm down at the end of the day and helps me fall asleep faster,” she told me. “I notice a calming sensation and no tingling.”

It’s hard to ignore the sky-high price tag in comparison to other grounding mats we’ve tested.

Why We Like the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat

As someone who implements meditation regularly, I particularly appreciate any tool that can enhance this much-needed practice. Besides PEMF and infrared technology, this multi-layer grounding mat has a grounding medical-grade magnetic strip that’s intended to improve blood flow and circulation. It also has a layer that contains amethyst and tourmaline—two supposed healing crystals that naturally generate free radical-fighting negative ions1. All of this can help put you in the right physical and mental state to unwind, especially if you also lean on a meditation app for guided support.

Earning a 4-out-of-5 rating for materials and durability, the PEMF Go Mat is firm yet not uncomfortable to lay on, as well. “It holds its structure well and I don’t experience any pain while laying on it,” our product tester told me.

Our tester also awarded a 4-out-of-5 rating for portability, as this compact mat is much more convenient to use than the full-size model from HigherDOSE. “It’s a lot easier to store,” they note, “As well as a lot easier to use in various settings such as while working when sitting in a chair or while resting on the couch or laying on a bed.”

Plus, despite all the technology, you don’t have to worry about a complicated setup process. As our tester noted, all you have to do is plug it into the wall, push a few buttons, and you’ll be ready to go. And if you want to wind down at the end of the day, our tester found the ideal solution.

“When I use the heated feature, I turn it on while I’m getting ready for bed to give it time to heat up and then start the PEMF once I’m laying on it, since that only runs for 20 minutes,” she explained to me.

This is a great tool for nervous system regulation, grounding, and calming the body, overall, in order to promote better sleep.

Our expert product tester

Alternatives

Although our expert product tester was highly impressed with the Infrared PEMF Go Mat’s effectiveness and overall build quality, she couldn’t ignore the high price tag, rating it a 2.5 out of 5 for value. We’d like to see a lengthier coverage period than just a one-year warranty, especially when you’re spending well over $500 on a recovery tool. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t consider making this part of your meditation routine.

“At $699, it’s an investment, but I find the benefits far outweigh the cost and I highly recommend it,” she told me. For context, this is the same price as the HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket, a portable, affordable alternative to a full-sized sauna.

Besides the cost, one of our tester’s only other callouts was that you can’t roll up the PEMF Go Mat for easier storage. That said, it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker, especially since you can fold it in half.

“The material is too firm to roll up, but I don’t find that I need this capability,” she told me.

If you can’t stomach spending almost $700 on a grounding mat, you could opt for one of the larger versions of the Terra Grounding Mat, which costs between $179.95 and $219.95.

Testing Breakdown

Here’s how the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat scored based on our testing methodology. Other than value, it earned at least a 4 or higher in every category.

While classic examples of “natural” earthing include walking barefoot on grass, standing in the ocean, or lying on the ground, you can also utilize a tool like the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat to change your body’s electrical state. Our top pick for this category offers excellent value, with GGR Senior Staff Writer Matt Dustin, CSCS, PN1-NC rating it a 4 out of 5 in this category.

“It costs $70 but feels really nice and comes with an outlet tester to make sure it’s grounded, as well as a free bracelet,” he told me. So, not only do you get a grounding mat, but you also get additional accessories that can help amplify your earthing experience.

Our expert product tester immediately felt tingling within minutes—a positive sign inferring this mat’s effectiveness.

Why We Like the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat

As a certified personal trainer and longtime weightlifter, Matt was eager to find out if the hype around earthing mats was warranted. Although he didn’t experience immediate tangible benefits, there’s no doubt the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat was doing its job.

“I felt tingling within minutes, which was super interesting and makes me think it’s working,” he told me, rating this mat a 4 out of 5 for effects.

Made from breathable polyurethane infused with carbon, this mid-priced mat feels similar to a yoga mat that plugs into a wall. Although Matt only gave it a 3-out-of-5 rating for materials and durability, he believes you get a good bang for your buck since your purchase includes much more than just a mat. Each kit includes a grounding cord, USA safety adapter, outlet tester, cylindrical carrying case, and a lava rock grounding bracelet (in addition to the mat, itself).

Another bonus is that this grounding mat comes with a lifetime warranty. A lengthy 90-day return policy gives you sufficient time to test the mat’s effectiveness, too, before you decide to pull the plug or make it a permanent part of your recovery routine, like the best massage chairs. As a result, we rate the customer experience at a perfect 5 out of 5.

I think it’s great, and it doesn’t feel too small at all. I typically put it below my desk with my feet on it, and it feels pretty spacious.

GGR Senior Staff Writer Matt Dustin, CSCS, PN1-NC

Alternatives

While this grounding mat met our thresholds for at least a 3 out of 5 in every category, there are a few callouts worth mentioning. First, this mat is not machine washable. This may not be a huge deal for some, but it does mean you’ll have to put in a little more elbow grease to keep it in pristine condition.

“I haven’t had to clean it yet, but I imagine it’ll be easy since it feels like a typical yoga mat,” adds Matt.”

Furthermore, although Earth and Moon now includes a carrying case with your purchase, Matt was disappointed that his kit did not include straps or a case for easy transport. As a result, he docked two points off the portability score, awarding a 3-out-of-5 rating.

If portability is your priority, the Hooga Grounding Mat earned a perfect score in this category. Plus, it’s less than half the cost of the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat.

The Terra Grounding Mat is ideal for office use, as you can fit it under or on top of your desk, depending on your needs. Another interesting feature is that it’s pet-friendly, which you don’t usually see advertised. However, the small size may not make it a great fit for all users.

At a Glance

  • Ultra-compact profile
  • Made with hypoallergenic and non-toxic materials
  • Available in multiple sizes
  • Does not include any accessories

Compactly designed with desk-friendly dimensions (10 inches wide and just over 2 feet long), the Terra Grounding Mat has a longer-than-average 16-foot grounding cord that connects easily to any grounded outlet. Whether you work in a traditional office setting or have your own workspace at home, you should have no trouble setting up the Terra Grounding Mat.

We rate it a perfect 5 out of 5 for size since you can choose from three options: the desk mat (10” W x 27” L), the couch mat (16” W x 32” L), or the floor mat (24” W x 36” L). If you want to prioritize your health and productivity, you can invest in an under-desk treadmill to get your steps in during the day and the Terra Ground Mat for late-afternoon recovery.

Why We Like The Terra Grounding Mat

While we haven’t tested this grounding mat yet, we like this silhouette from a design standpoint—notably, that it’s made with hypoallergenic and non-toxic materials. Since it’s free from harmful chemicals, it’s safe for all skin types. In fact, it’s even marketed as being safe for pets. We’ll give the materials a 4 out of 5, although the score may change once we get our hands on the Terra.

Currently listed for $139.95, the Terra Grounding Mat is often available for a much lower sale price. We’ve seen it available for as little as $69.95—a fairly good value, even for a smaller-than-average mat. In case you needed to go bigger, the couch mat has a list price of $179.95, while the floor mat has a list price of $219.95.

The company also offers a special where you can buy two mats and receive a free grounding pillow case valued at $100. There’s also a grounding bundle that includes a mat, a grounding flat sheet, and the grounding pillow case for enhanced sleep quality. The bundle has a list price of $379.90, but again, you should be able to get it for cheaper during sale periods.

While we rate the value a 3.5 out of 5, it’s important to note that The Grounding Co. only offers free shipping on orders over $100. So, if you’re going with the desktop version, you’ll have to factor shipping costs into your total investment.

As a final positive note, we appreciate that The Grounding Co. gives you 90 days to evaluate whether this mat belongs in your recovery arsenal. That’s a lengthy return policy that should give you some added peace of mind about checking out this product.

“The lengthy return policy is great, especially for something like a grounding mat, which can take weeks or months to see long-term results,” GGR managing editor Amanda Dvorak, CPT, CNC, told me. “It makes me feel better knowing I have ample time to determine if it will be effective in the long run.”

I do appreciate that you have multiple sizes to choose from, depending on your preferred grounding stance. For the grounding-in-the-office crowd, though, the Desk Mat should be perfect for comfortable setups.

GGR Editor Ben Emminger, NASM-CNC, NASM-CSNC

Alternatives

Although The Grounding Co. deserves credit for its return policy, we’re disappointed that there’s no warranty information available. In addition, there are no financing options, and this product is not HSA/FSA eligible, meaning you can’t use pre-tax dollars to fund this purchase. As a result, we docked several points off the customer experience score, settling on a 2.5 out of 5.

Another disappointing aspect is that you don’t get much else in terms of accessories. Your purchase includes the Terra mat and a connecting cord only.

“As someone who works remotely and has been traveling between different work locations recently, I wish this mat came with a carrying case, or at least some straps to help keep it secure,” Amanda told me.

If you’re looking for more of a complete grounding kit, check out the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat. Not only do you get a mat, but you also get a few bonus items, like an outlet tester and a carrying case.

The Earthing Elite Sleep Mat is a solid option if you’re looking to enhance your zzz’s. However, it’s on the expensive side, and the materials may not last as long as we’d like to see based on the price point.

What our tester says:

“You can also set this mat up across a larger bed so that two people can sleep on it.”

At a Glance

  • Eco-friendly, non-toxic materials
  • Includes several accessories
  • Water-resistant
  • Large size accommodates all types of users

Grounding mats aren’t only used for meditation or enhancing productivity at work. Oftentimes, people utilize them to promote better sleep. If you’re in that camp, you should put Clint Ober’s Earthing Elite Sleep Mat on your wish list (along with the best magnesium sprays) to achieve higher-quality zzz’s.

“A good night’s rest can improve mood, cognitive function, lower the risk of serious health problems, and lead to an overall happier and healthier life. Sleep is the bedrock upon which everything else is really built,” says Dr. Shelby Harris, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Senior Staff Writer and Olympian weightlifter Caine Wilkes, OLY, CNC, USAW-L1, tested the Earthing Elite Sleep Mat extensively, giving it a 5-star rating for size since it’s big enough for one person to sleep on lengthwise.

Size: 5/5

Value: 2/5

Earthing Elite Sleep Mat connecting to cord
Based on its nearly $200 price point, we’d like to see better-quality materials that will hold up to repeated use.

Why We Like the Earthing Elite Sleep Mat

While Caine didn’t feel any noticeable tingling sensations, that could be because the mat is designed for restful zzz’s. Still, he was pleased to report that his back was less stiff when he woke up.

As a larger athlete, Caine found the mat lacked sufficient width for his body. However, he still gave this mat a perfect size score. Here’s why:

“The 27-inch width isn’t wide enough for my shoulders and arms, but I’m very broad, and from my understanding, your entire body doesn’t need to be on it,” he told me.

If you share a bed with a partner, you don’t have to worry about purchasing two of these mats, either.

“You can also set this mat up across a larger bed so that two people can sleep on it with their bare legs on the mat,” Caine explains.

Also earning a 5-out-of-5 rating for portability, our resident strength guru appreciates that this mat comes with a clear zip-up bag. This makes it easy to transport, especially since the mat is surprisingly lightweight despite its large footprint.

It also has a nice long cord that should be able to reach any outlet in your average bedroom.

GGR Senior Staff Writer Caine Wilkes, OLY, CNC, USAW-L1

Alternatives

Although Caine only rated this mat a 2 out of 5 for effects, it’s important to remember that achieving better quality sleep encompasses a number of factors. After all, you can’t simply rely on a melatonin supplement to set you up for consistent success when it’s time to turn the lights off.

“Establishing a consistent sleep schedule and creating wind-down rituals are crucial for transitioning into sleep and improving sleep quality,” says GGR Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM. “Creating an environment conducive to sleep by ensuring your bedroom is dim, cool, and quiet, exercising during the day, and minimizing exposure to screens and technology close to bedtime, all play a vital role in promoting sleep hygiene.”

Unfortunately, you’ll have to extend yourself a bit financially for the Earthing Elite Sleep Mat. With a list price of roughly $180, this is not a budget-friendly option like some of the other mats that made our list. As a result, Caine rated it just 2 out of 5 for value.

“It comes with some free reading material about grounding, but $179 feels like a lot for an item that may or may not make a major difference. Also, the materials feel flimsy for the cost, too,” he told me.

If you’re less concerned about better sleep and more concerned about maximum effectiveness, we recommend the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat. This profile earned a perfect score in effects—arguably the most important category.

Testing Breakdown

Here’s how the Earthing Elite Sleep Mat performed across all categories. As you can see, it was a bit of a mixed bag, with particularly low scores for effects and value.

Other Grounding Mats We Researched and Tested

While the grounding mat market isn’t nearly as expansive as it is for barbells or dumbbells, we cast a wide net to help you stay #grounded. Here are a couple other mats that didn’t quite make the cut for us:

  • GroundingWell Mat: Available with different plug configurations, we felt the $70 price tag was a bit steep for what you get.
  • Soliterra Grounding Mat: While budget-friendly, this mat generated mixed reviews from Amazon customers.

How We Picked and Tested The Best Grounding Mats

Eager to see whether earthing products are legit or just another fitness fad, our team went on a mission to evaluate their effectiveness. Since this is a fairly new product category, we took the time to examine all the options on the market, including budget-friendly and high-end mats.

Earth and Moon Grounding Mat Power Connector
A close-up look at the Earth and Moon Grounding Mat power connector

Our product testers, all of whom hold years of experience in the fitness space, used grounding mats after workouts, during their workday, and even while sleeping. Our team rated each mat based on our fitness equipment testing methodology, assigning a score from 1 to 5 across these categories:

Materials and Durability

Does the mat feel like it’ll hold up with repeated use? Cheaper materials won’t last over time, which is not ideal if you’re investing hard-earned money on your recovery. A 3-out-of-5 score reflects that the mat is made with non-toxic materials that should last at least one year.

Effects

Do you feel any tingling or any notable sensations when using the mat for the first time? What effects (positive or negative) did the experience yield? This can be quite subjective depending on the user, but we like to see some improvement in sleep quality, recovery, and stress levels to earn a 3-out-of-5 rating.

Portability

Is the grounding mat easy to fold or roll the mat up when you’re on the go? Does it come with straps or a carrying case? To get a 3, the mat is pretty lightweight (typically between 1 and 2 pounds) and you can roll it up, but it may not come with straps to keep it rolled. Meanwhile, the power cord should be decently long (at least 12 feet) but may still be too short for you to use it in certain areas.

RELATED: Best Portable Saunas

Ease of Cleaning

Whether you’re standing, sitting, or sleeping on a grounding mat, you want to be able to clean it consistently without any hassles. While some models are machine-washable, others may require hand cleaning with a wipe or cloth. To meet our threshold for a 3 out of 5, the mat may not be machine-washable, but any stains or other debris that get on it are removed easily with mild soap and water.

Size

Are the dimensions suitable for users of all sizes? Compact mats can be great for certain situations but are not ideal if you’re a larger individual. On the other end of the spectrum, you can find fitted sheets or grounding mattresses that are substantially larger than desk-friendly options, like the Terra Grounding Mat. To earn a 3 out of 5, the mat is average-sized and you feel like it would work for most people, but it may not work for taller or heavier individuals.

Value

Does the price justify the quality? Does the company offer a mat kit with extra accessories such as a carrying case, straps, or educational materials on grounding practices? To earn a 3 out of 5, the mat should be priced fairly based on similar products.

RELATED: Best Budget Massage Guns

Customer Experience

How easy is it to order the mat? We also look at return policies, warranties, and contact options to get a clear idea of what the customer experience is like. To earn a 3 out of 5, we like to see at least a one-year warranty and 30-day return policy.

Customer Reviews

We take a look at what actual customers have to say about a particular grounding mat. Whether it’s Amazon, the official company website, or another reputable retailer, we look at the average rating and dive into customer reviews for detailed feedback.

Benefits of Grounding Mats

Grounding (also known as earthing) involves making direct contact with the Earth’s surface to establish a conductive connection with your body. This popular holistic health practice is based on the idea that the human body can absorb electrons from the Earth to fight free radicals—molecules that can potentially lead to oxidative stress and disease.

A person's feet are shown standing on a grounding mat for the cover image of the best grounding mats

Of course, not everyone has time or access to harness this natural energy. That’s where items like grounding mats, earthing sheets, and mattress covers come in. These products mimic the Earth’s electromagnetic fields (EMF), offering a convenient way to enjoy grounding benefits without stepping outside. Below are just some of the associated perks that could (potentially) be reaped by adding a grounding mat routine to your recovery protocols.

May Assist With Healing and Immune System Function

While more research is needed to fully understand the capabilities of this emerging technology on human health, here are some ways you may potentially improve your physical and mental well-being, based on a 2015 study2 conducted on the effects of grounding:

  • Reduced inflammation
  • Improved healing from injuries
  • Improved immune system response
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Reduced stress

RELATED: Acupressure Mat Benefits

May Help With Pain Reduction

A study published in the Journal of Integrative and Complementary Medicine3 on the effects of grounding the human body during sleep showed promising results for reducing pain, stress, and cortisol levels. Researchers found that earthing during sleep reduced night-time levels of cortisol and resynchronized cortisol hormone secretion more in alignment with the body’s natural 24-hour circadian rhythm profile. However, again, more research is needed to fully back these claims.

Can Help With Stress Management

Based on my own experience, I find grounding therapy to be a useful tool to have in my health and wellness arsenal. Practicing deep breathing and mindfulness can calm my nervous system and allow me to feel more connected emotionally and spiritually. That doesn’t mean standing on an earthing mat will magically make your problems disappear, but it can be a practice you pencil into your recovery routine, especially during periods of stress. At the very least, it probably won’t do any harm!

Ultimately, using a grounding mat can, at least, be a part of your stress management protocol. After all, it really takes a combination of practices to help take that mental load off.

“You can manage stress with mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing or enjoyable hobbies,” adds Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM.

Buying Guide: What to Look For In Grounding Mats

Although each grounding mat aims to produce the same result of reducing the negative charge in your body, there’s still quite a few factors to consider before purchasing a grounding mat for your workplace or home.

Size and Portability

First, you should consider the size of the grounding mat you’d like. To best figure out your ideal mat’s dimensions, you should think about where you’d want to use it.

Earth and Moon Grounding Mat Storage

For standing or sitting, you may want a larger mat; however, if you’re wanting it at your workspace, you may need something a bit more compact. Additionally, you can get a larger mat for your bed if you’d like to ground while sleeping.

If you’re planning on taking a mat back and forth to different places, you’ll want to make sure that the grounding mat is portable and easy to travel with, as well. Look for lightweight options with carrying solutions, like bags or totes to carry the mat and the grounding cord.

Grounding Cord Length

Depending on where you want to have your grounding mat, you may need a longer grounding cord to reach your outlet. Many grounding mats come with decent lengths of grounding cords, but if you are concerned about the distance between your outlet and where you’d like to perform your grounding, this is a specification to pay attention to.

Extras

Some grounding mats come with extra features, or just extra perks. Some profiles are available with testing kits to make sure your outlet can safely be used for grounding. Because it’s still a niche recovery method, other mats come with literature on the subject of earthing.

Premium grounding mats can come with larger or added features, like heat or infrared and red light therapy. These premium features will add to the cost, however, so plan your budget accordingly.

FAQs About the Best Grounding Mats

Do grounding mats really work?

While they may not have the same impact for all users, research shows grounding mats can have beneficial effects such as reduced anxiety and stress, improved sleep, better blood circulation, pain relief, and reduced inflammation.

What are grounding sheets?

Grounding sheets contain conductive materials like silver or carbon threads that aim to connect your body with the Earth’s natural electrical charge during sleep. Potential benefits of using this grounding product include improved sleep quality, reduced stress, and better overall well-being.

Which brand of grounding mat is best?

Choosing the best grounding mat brand depends on your needs. For example, we put Earthing at the top for sleep. We like Hooga as our best overall because you get great bang for your buck. Ultimately, you need to consider several factors such as your budget, portability, and intended use to make the best purchasing decision.

Should you sleep on a grounding mat every night?

Sleeping on a grounding mat every night won’t  necessarily ensure better quality rest. Instead, follow this advice from GGR chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM.

“It’s essential to establish a consistent sleep schedule, sticking to the same bedtime and wake-up times daily,” he explains. “Cultivate a relaxing bedtime routine that may involve activities such as taking a warm bath, reading, or listening to soothing music, while avoiding screens and electronic devices an hour before sleep due to their disruptive blue light.”
